Tuition and Financial Aid

Is financial aid available?

Many of our students receive financial support from their employers. Others can apply for federal loans for their master’s degree programs by completing the FAFSA form. For more information, please visit our Office of Student Aid webpage.

How much does each program cost?

The costs of each program vary. Here are the general costs associated with each:

$1,300 per credit hour, with a total of $39,000* for the entire program.

*This amount does not include textbooks or course-specific software. Software required for courses is typically available by UW–Madison or in educational versions at substantial discounts.

What are the admission requirements?

How long does it take to complete my degree?

Below, you’ll find the average time it takes students to complete each degree. Keep in mind that since these are online programs, you can complete them at a pace that’s comfortable for you.

How long does it take to complete my certificate?

While you have the freedom to complete the Power Conversion and Control Capstone Certificate on your own timeline, many students complete the program in as little as one to two years.

Are students only accepted in the fall semester?

No, students are accepted year-round. Below is a breakdown of the application deadlines (and available semesters) for each program:

  • Master of Engineering: Engineering, Data Analytics
    • Fall deadline: July 1
    • Spring deadline: November 1
    • Summer deadline: May 1
  • Master of Science in Manufacturing Systems Engineering
    • Fall deadline: July 1

  • Power Conversion and Control Capstone Certificate

Can I transfer credits earned from another university?

Yes, you can transfer credits from other universities. The policies are program-specific and approved by the academic director. At the graduate level, there is a limit to how many credits you can transfer.

Does this program accept international students?

Yes, we gladly welcome applicants from all over the world to apply to our graduate engineering programs. For more information about applying as an international student, please review our Office of Admissions and Recruitment page.

How long does it take to receive an admissions decision?

We have rolling admissions, so we do not review all materials until the full application is submitted.

Is the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) required?

While we don’t require students to take the GRE, we highly suggest you include your scores in your application if you have already taken it.

What resources are available to online students?

Online students at UW-Madison have access to a range of university resources designed to support their academic and personal success. This includes virtual tutoring, writing centers, academic advising, and remote library resources. Our online students also have access to career services and job search support through Engineering Career Services.

What learning platform will I take my classes on?

UW–Madison currently uses Canvas and Zoom Plug-In for Canvas.
