Technical Project Management (TPM) is a 3-credit graduate engineering course that addresses the principles, strategies and tools of project management that apply to a broad range of engineering projects.

The course is designed to help you improve your effectiveness as a leader of project teams and their collective work. Individual and group assignments are structured to meet the needs of a wide range of previous experience in project management, enabling students to expand their knowledge and applied skills.

This course is being offered to students interested in trying out our Master of Engineering degree offerings. You will be able to test out your ability to learn online in a very collaborative environment.

The course seeks to encourage learning by challenging students to review, critically examine and apply best practices and current project management strategies and tools. These are identified through textbook readings, case studies and students’ sharing of experiences and insights. A team project provides a rich opportunity for collaborative learning through a carefully designed series of exercises in which students apply project management strategies and tools. You will get the opportunity to work with other engineering professionals from both small and large companies deployed in a variety of domains including design, manufacturing, IT, applications and capital projects.

The key overall goals for this course are to help you:

• Lead and contribute more effectively in your work environment, whether as a project manager, team leader or individual contributor.
• Select and apply strategies to organize, plan and complete projects appropriate to the complexity, culture and context of individual projects and organizations.
• Lead and contribute to improvements in the project management strategies and practices at your current and future employers.
• Grow in understanding and application of your leadership, management, communication and teamwork skills.

This course includes a weekly live session as well as readings, recorded lectures, discussion forums and group/independent work. Expect to spend nine hours each week on the course.
